More Signs of People Waking Up

Sent an order in to Frugal last night that included a Royal Berkey w/4 Black Berkey filters and a Country Living Grain Mill. Got an email today notifying me that there's a 3-week backlog on Black Berkey filters, and if I want my Berkey sooner, I can change my order to the ceramic filters (I told them I'd wait for the Black Berkeys). They also said that there is about a 3-week backlog for the Country Living Mill.

Get it while you can, folks!

I ordered a basic grain mill a month ago, and I still have another 2 weeks wait. People really are stocking up like there is no tomorrow.

Odd, I was thinking just in the past few days of buying a grain mill, and also a pressure canner.

What's a good grain mill? Hand crank, I presume?

It's a good sign, IMO, that more people are getting preps. That could make things not nearly as bad if we have a sudden serious problem.

And if not, just rotate stocks of food and be glad some extra was bought at lower prices. Preps are, IMO, a win-win proposition. Plus they can cover you in non disaster situations like a big pay cut for a time or a sudden big expense. If you can feed your family from preps and refill them later you will not be nearly as stressed if some financial problem comes along.

The wife and I have talked it over and we hope we never need our preps in the worst case scenario that prompted us to get them, because we hope things never get that bad. But we sure feel more comfortable with them on hand.

The month we had spent our ready cash on the feral kittens and car repair then had a big bunch of medical bills getting her diabetes diagnosed and in control, we used some of our preps to keep the grocery bills down. They are really handy for lots of reasons.

And the more people who have preps the smaller the load on charities and soup kitchens, etc., if things go bad wrong.

As a funny aside, we recently both had big attacks of wanting junk food, I think from eating our more whole food preps and not eating out or expensive junk food for a long time.

The Berkey is overpriced and over rated.

Try an American made AquaRain, uses Marathon ceramic/silver elements and is 100% American made with stainless steel tanks, not cheap plastic.

The Berkey is only assembled in the U.S.

It seems mountain house is swamped too. My Amazon order for 2 cases got cancelled after weeks. Frugel Squirell says it might be mid April before MH orders go out.

I purchased the Country Living Grain Mill. It is very nice, well made, sturdy, and it grinds the heck out of wheat. Definitely buy the handle extension, it makes using this mill definitely easier. Also, shop around, sometimes you can find package deals with the larger auger (for corn) and/or replacement burrs.

I'll second that. I found that vitacost.com is the best deal for Mountain House (especially when you combine with 5% cashback through referral sites like fatwallet.com) but they are backordered. No biggie though - I placed my orders about 2 weeks ago and they are starting to ship them now.

Beprepared.com is pretty heavily backordered too, but they do have alot of MH and provident pantry as well.

For the AquaRain water filtration system, any idea how long it takes to produce 1 gallon of water? I cant find that kind of information anywhere on the web site.

And what do they mean by only costing 2 cents per gallon? It does not use electricity, so what are you paying 2 cents to? Is that the cost of the filter divided by how many gallons one filter can filter?

I don't think it's the sheeple. It's just us doubling up on stuff creating a drought.

yeah I agree.

we are a Just-In-Time based economy. They only stock what they know would immediately sell based on previous market performance, which was just casual purchasing by people like us.

Now, people like us are starting to recognize more danger and are ramping up their purchases and since no significant stocks of these products are stored anywhere in our JIT based economy it has easily overwhelmed it.

Now imagine if the sheep really do wake up and desire these products... you wouldn't be able to buy some of these products AT ALL. I mean, you'd have to wait months if not years for the limited production lines to satisfy demand if they ever even could

Absolutely the truth ! If everyone simply tried to go get a week or two worth of food of ANY kind, you would see empty stores everywhere.

I read somewhere that the gasoline shortage of 73-74 was pretty much artificial.....that what was normally stored in gas station tanks simply moved to individual car tanks as people kept 1/4 to 1/2 tank more gasoline in their cars than normal.....thus causing apparent shortages.

I just got one of those. What kind of feedback do you have for it? Any "surprises" I should know about?

Well if the sheep did wake up and start buying this stuff (as I type, I am just learning what I need to buy, baaaaaaaaaa), then perhaps it would create jobs and propel the economy to new unimagined heights.

Uh, on second thought, it would probably only create new jobs in China.

I have the large 4 element unit, can provide up to 24 gallons of drinking water per day.

The cost is an estimate of total output VS cost of the unit. NO electric power or heat (like a still) required.

Quality built, made in Missouri.

You forget the best part: Once preparation is no longer cool we'll all be able to get great gear at garage sale prices!!
